Corn and more rambling

Our gentle giant seems to be getting a tooth and has a bit of the crabbies.  However, that said every time I think they are poking up the little buggers go back into hiding.  Don't get me wrong I am in no hurry for the jaws to make their appearance.

He loves the corn on the cob.  I was trying to purchase things that were grown closer to home and in many cases I am doing well but there are just some things we just seem to say what the hay!  Banana's Phia and David are fiends for them. Mine is apples which of course is easy and Logan well his is the corn on the cob.Who knows where that is being shipped from and I hate to think how long of a trip they have to make it to the local market.  How can you not just go for it though when you see them having such a good time with their food??  Sophia ate her cob and mine.

I am off to soccer now. Wish our team luck I think we are playing the ball bashers.  We always get creamed though, I have scored a few times.  I still think our team has more fun than anyone out there!

Jacob/ Haircut/ Park ahhhh

Mama's special day yesterday.  Spent the morning with family hit the mall playground and looked at the holiday sales.  then I got a haircut.  Went in for a trim decided to grow it out opps oh well it will grow.  It is a good cut. Should grow out nice.

Ok Phia is always cuter then me even with a new cut.  Don't ya love the summer dress?  It was like 50 degrees out today!
Then I was off to see New Moon with friends.  It was awesome.  Much better then the first. The special effects were better and I liked how the cut the movie out of the book.  Won't ruin the end but one friend sitting just down the way yelled at the end "I'm not happy!"  she was totally jones to know what happens next and she hasn't read the books.  Big mistake! Read the books.  Then read Graceling by Kristin Cashore it's excellent. So I finished the book today took Phia to meet her buddy at the park and have spent the rest of the day cleaning and doing laundry!

Washington parks are beautiful even if it's cold and wet out.  That's the river in the background.

Santa News

David and I love the whole black Friday shopping chaos.  This year he went on his own. Got up and out at 3:00 came home with a non nutritious breakfast in hand which is our tradition.  After shower and a nap we went to Pioneer Place to see Santa.  He is the greatest Santa, real beard with a little magic dust that always seems to fall on the kids as they get up and off him.  Phia proudly though nervously told him she wanted a Strawberry Cake Doll (strawberry shortcake doll).  He told her to be nice and help her momma with her baby brother and of course a coloring book and candy cane to go.  Logan had a very different experience with Santa.

Hey Mommy and Daddy are over there.

What who is this guy?

Get me the HECK outta here NOW!

Mommyhood

I would like to say I was the kind of Mother that..
Stayed at home
Is an excellent healthy cook
used cloth diapers
made all the baby food
never supplemented with formula
always had patience
didn't allow TV
had nothing but natural toys
had a clean house
....

But on a day like today after waking up at 4:00 am with my 8 month old, working in job that is mentally exhausting, I can really say what kind of parent I am.

I stopped on the way home to get Youskyme (the best teriyaki in town).
I happily threw away the dirty diapers (less laundry)
I fed the kids with homemade applesauce and store bought biter biscuit for my littlest.
I went to the bathroom almost alone while my son had a bottle
I can not count how many times I said in a loudish voice give your brother space
I am peacefully writing this while my 3 year old watches Caillou
I look around at the toys spewed like a volcano all around the house, many made of plastic. My daughter holding her favorite a Jessie doll from Toy Story and listen to her tell me she wants to ask Santa for a strawberry shortcake doll and a Dora game.

This is my reality.  In the end, my reality suits me just fine.  When the day is done and I have rocked Logan and read to Phia I know I am doing it all just right.

Good night sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Sewing Gifts/ Sweet Sundays

Sundays used to be my nemesis but now this is...

Silly thing!  I have threaded it like 50 times and it will go one pass no problem then the thread comes out of one of the loops and it gets bungled up!  Wish my Husbands parents lived close.  Mary is a master at sewing and Dave is a master at fixing... well damn near everything.  They are coming at Christmas but I am sewing for Christmas.

Today went with friends on a trek through the woods to a park (local)  Both kids slept an hour and thirty minutes that's all it took me to finish up this...

What is it??  Christmas gift, all you get is this.

Phia got an awesome game from a friend today for her birthday.

Super fun and she could play a whole round with no trouble.  We will be playing this often I think.

We will play only of course when I am not doing this :)  New pattern and book with left over birthday money since I messed up the other shirt (too small).  Looking forward to making this but I think it will have to wait until the Christmas gifts are done.  I have quite a few...
I better get busy.

Thankful

I have been thinking a lot lately about all the things I am thankful for.  The time of year maybe brings it out in a all of us.  The excitement of Halloween and birthdays then the peacefulness of Thanksgiving before the bustle of Christmas.  I love it all.  Don't get me wrong I get stressed and overwhelmed and overworked but I still in the end enjoy the fall and winter for all the chaos it brings.

The year will end with a list of resolutions and then before you know it, it's spring.  The cycle rolls on and the years do as well.  It's hard to believe how many memories I have forgotten.  Everything seems so important in that moment and then it's gone.  "The Power of Now" as Eckhart Tolle would explain.

In this moment, this very moment I am thankful for...
Being Loved
Loving others
"I love you Mommy" even if it's in the middle of the night.
Baby toes, warm round bellies, and giggles
Husbands that do the dishes
Friends that become Mother-in-Laws
Baba's that bring yummies every Friday
Good friends that listen and commiserate and giggle and celebrate
family and friends that donate fabric
sewing machines and sergers
laptops and Internet
more books than I can possibly finish
more projects than I can finish

What things are you most thankful for today??

Fabulous Food on Friday's

Baba comes every Friday to watch our lovelies while David rides the bus to Bellingham and I work.  She brings yummies for both of us.  A sack lunch for David filled with sandwiches and special goodies picked just for him.  For me she brings this...

Curry Lentil Soup with apples and almond butter and orange slices. So amazing I can't even begin to describe.

With arms like this and smiles like this

How can you not love Fridays.
Eat well and enjoy!

Thursday's

Thursday's are a good day.  A day before the ahh of Friday and the day after hump-day.

For us hey usually signify a lack of food in the house,  a lack of clean laundry and a lot of dirt build up after the week.  Before kids it was the day to clean so you could enjoy your weekend without the guilt of chores.  Now it seems to be just another day.  Today I did my biggest baddest chore the one I detest the most and being that it was Thursday and knowing I wouldn't have to do it on the weekend and with the help of my most amazing husband we did it together.

Folded and clean and ready for a relaxing weekend.  Thursday's are good.

AHH and ahh

AHH!!
A trying day at work.  The kind of day where you wonder who you are and why you're here.  I seem to be having more of these than I care to admit.  Too much to do, not enough time, and expectations of myself that are just plain too high.  All these things I know.  Knowing doesn't seem to change them.  Good friends with listening eyes often keep me sane and save me from myself.

ahh..
Arriving home my daughter greeted me with a joyful "Mommy you're home.  I wuv you."

My son crawled clear across the room to greet me with a smile.

Even the dog was happy to see me. His gray sad old beagle face transformed for a few minutes to bark and wag. He does get a treat when I arrive home but I still think he likes to see me as well.

My husband sighs a deep sigh of relief knowing he is no longer alone to deal with the trials and tribulations of the day.

After the hugs the dinner cooking begins.  Phia stabs and wraps the potato's and then helps Daddy make brownies.  Yes from a box but still yummy none the less.  I put the chicken in and then we take time to rest together.

Baths, baby feedings, diaper changes, bedtime books and children asleep.

Now it's my time.
Time to sleep?? no
Time to read?? not yet
Time to sew?? you betcha I got a skirt to sew.
 ahhh...

Soccer and Sewing

So yesterday I made the mistake of writing my blog on my sidekick.  Little did I know that it would not post.  I tried to keep it so I could retype it here tonight but alas I messed up and went back to many times and lost it.  It was an Ode to soccer.  If I can re-create it I will if not.. sorry all you missed a rockin' post.

And on with the day...

Exhaustion is a funny thing.  It can make you quick to anger, faster to tears and light speed to giggles.
When the giggles go the are tough to stop,  the tears flow the gut aches there is nothing better then a hard belly laugh to shake the cobwebs out.   How did they start. One grumpy face led to a 3 year old version of my own which let to another face and another until they became so silly we could no longer make them.  Take time today to belly laugh you won't regret it.

MORE FABRIC...
A  fellow fabric hound from work graciously shared her stash for the second time.  Oh to the delight of little miss Sophia.  "Strawberry Cake Mommy a skirt."

The other fabric she is clutching is Tinkerbell.

This is just some. The purple corduroy on the right may make Mommy a super skirt. After the sad shirt news.  I picked out, bought and made myself a beautiful blue shirt.  Sad news you ask??  Well it is several sizes too small in the bust.  Not to fear I am sure I have someone to give it to maybe for Christmas.

Christmas sewing yes I have a large amount to do.  Can I post what I am making here??  I may be able to elude to it and then post the actual pictures after the 25Th.  Hmmm I will ponder that a little longer.

Peaceful Sundays

I had a request and I aim to please so here is the pink polka dot skirt.  She wore it yesterday all day under a blue dress and countless other shirts and dresses which is how she has been wearing her skirts these days.

Peaceful Sunday's

The day's events unfold in minutes.  Changing from one game of sorts to another.  In the eyes of a child a paper doll transforms into something much more.  Only to be undone from play that becomes to  rambunctious.

The pots and pans make a beautiful racket.  The work of opening and closing and emptying is all in a days work.  Bang Bang went the drum as the band played on.
A quick refueling of apples and tea with Woody and the puzzle looking on.

The dog cheers and laps up any and all remnants of food. Some even happily shared. The Beagle's waistline grows and time ticks on.

The day is done and the messes show proof of the days events.  The little piles are cleaned but the memories of the games live on. All in a days work in the life of a child.

A peaceful Sunday closes.  The band plays it's lullaby. The dog snores and oh the beauty of those little toes. What a wonderful way to spend a peaceful Sunday.
